WIP Wednesday - Bunk Bed Quilts

The "new" house has a family bedroom with a queen bed and a bunk bed, perfect for visiting families.  One of my favorite quilts is on the queen bed and its time to make quilts for the bunks.  As the inspiration quilt is a couple of years old, I have very little of the original fabric still in my stash (much to my surprise!) so I have started to pull fabric from my stash that at least coordinates.

Is it me, or is making up bunk beds an athletic event?  My idea is to size the bunk quilts to hang over the sides and hopefully hide any imperfections in the making of the bed.

Another little upgrade to the sewing room to share with you.

I had a wonderful weekend celebrating my 60th (the new 40??) birthday with my family.   Great food, visit to a farm, visit to a fabric store (I love my family), new games, pumpkin carving and more!  Look at those spoiled puppies!

 So much fun!

Hope you are having a great week!

Finished - Delectable Mountain Quilt

The delectable mountain quilt block has been on my list for a while.  You know, living near mountains, lakes, etc.  Then I saw this quilt by Janice Prytz in Quilty magazine (Jan/Feb 2015):
Holly Taylor's Birch Bark Lodge seemed like the perfect fabric for these mountains.

I quilted this in an all over leaf motive that coordinates well with the backing fabric.

We had so much fun photographing this quilt amidst the local scenery.

This quilt has been gifted to the very talented guy who was the project manager for our house renovation.  Thanks to Doug's oversight, the renovation was completed on time (in record time for a renovation of this size we are told) and we couldn't be happier with the results!  A quilt is the least I could do!

Happy Friday!

PS  For those keeping score, three posts in one week is a 2015 first for this gal!  She's back!!

Dog Gone Cute Blog Hop and Tucker - The Pillow

The moment I saw Lorna of Sew Fresh Quilts Dog Gone Cute quilt I thought immediately of my grand-dog Tucker.  But you can be the judge.  This is the very handsome Mr. Tucker:
He is an almost one year old hybrid sweet dog rescued by my son and daughter-in-law via the New Hampshire Humane Society.
And using Lorna's fun pattern, here is the Tucker Pillow:
The backing fabric seemed like a good choice.

Striving to emulate our blog hop leader, I quilted this in a wavy line using the walking foot.
I think Tucker likes it!  (I love he is posing on the little bed I made him!)
Tucker really can't hide very well under this pillow!
And did you know that October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month?  There are thousands of dogs out there that are just waiting to be loved.  If you are anywhere near me in New Hampshire, stop by the New Hampshire Humane Society in Laconia, NH for a sample of dogs looking to find their forever homes.

The Dog Gone Cute Blog Hop continues!  Lorna has sweetly shared the blocks to make all the different puppies for a quilt.  Tucker's Pillow uses just one of the blocks Lorna has designed.  These bloggers are sharing their take on Lorna's design today:

Lorna is one extraordinarily talented and generous maker.  Her patterns are fun, clever and always so well written.  Thank you Lorna for giving us these pups!  This will not be my last Dog Gone Cute block!

New England Fall Foliage

To celebrate our wedding anniversary we went on a little adventure to the Mount Washington Hotel this past week.  Even on a cloudy day, the drive north was an overture for the scenery to follow.

The majestic Mt. Washington Hotel.
Leaves along hiking paths.
Majestic waterfalls.

Rolling mountains of color.

And we returned home to our back yard and our neighbors.

This blog post has been brought to you by the New Hampshire Travel and Tourism Bureau.  Please come and visit!

The Best October Weekend

Sometimes you have good weekends, and then there are perfect weekends!  Started off with another fun visit with my mother-in-law in Maine who had colluded with our sons to arrange for the delivery of these beautiful flowers for our wedding anniversary (38 years...what??).
It was a three-day weekend full of very special guests, visiting a country fair, corn maze fun, watching the Patriots win with a mob of friends, great food, a final boat ride of the season and even a little sewing.

Life is good.

WIP Wednesday - Happy to be Back

Even though the weather (before today) has been spectacularly beautiful, I have managed to find a little time for sewing.

The leaves has just begun to turn autumn colors.   Every month of the year presents opportunities for beauty and special events (OK, so you may have to look a little harder in March's mud season around here) but October is by a wide margin my favorite month of the year.  New England foliage and fall events,  lovely crisp days and cool nights and our wedding anniversary and my birthday!  I promise to share some of the local color with you.

Speaking of color, I am playing with these in the new sewing cave.

I am indeed so excited to be back sewing!  So many projects on my mind that need to be translated to cotton and thread.  I'm also working on updating my social media.  This little blog needs some housekeeping and, hopefully, that will happen soon.  Meanwhile I have been waging a little war with Flickr.  The combination of a Yahoo product and my gmail account just did not want to work.  After much effort trying to solve this with the on-line community, I finally was able to work with someone (a real person!) at Yahoo customer support who unlocked the mystery.  Hooray!  I have now updated Flickr for most of my finished projects to date.

Today we are getting much needed rain and it is dark and wet outside.  My BFF from high school (and sisters) and her husband are visiting today and comfort food is on the menu for dinner.

Turkey shepherds pie in process.  The house smells very much like fall.

Linking up with Sew Fresh Quilts and Freshly Pieced!  Hope you are enjoying your day, whatever the weather!
Kathy

WIP Wednesday - A Perfect First Day of Fall

Apple picking...
 Blueberry picking...
Boat ride on the smoothest water...
Sunset row...
And playing with a little chartreuse fabric...

What a lovely way to welcome my favorite time of the year!
